Are You Happy?

Occasionally, these newsletters can be tough to write. Often the hardest part is to come up with a topic for us to discuss. Our topics tend to come from a wide variety of sources, and this week's topic was no different. A friend of mine shared a Tweet from Mark Manson, as soon as I read it I knew that it needed to be this week's topic.

Here is the Tweet:

After pausing to reflect on this for a bit. Manson is absolutely right. Think about it for a moment. What kind of person would you rather spend your most valuable asset with? People who are miserable and sulking, or people who are laughing and smiling? That's a really easy question for me to answer. Given the option, most people would choose to spend their time surrounded by people who are happy. They would prefer to surround themselves with the people who bring them the most joy.

To be fair, it is nearly impossible to be happy all the time. And I am not, in any way, advocating that anyone fake happiness. There are some people who never leave their homes without a smile on their faces, but they are definitely the exception. Have you ever met one of these people? Throughout my time on this planet, I have met a handful, and they tend to be the kind of people that we gravitate towards. Their happiness tends to spill over onto others. It is almost contagious, making everyone around them happier.

After reading this Tweet and my comments on it, I have to ask you a question:

If you know that you would prefer to be around a happy person, don't you think that your friends and family would too?

Do what you can to be the kind of person that you would want to spend your time with! It is not easy, but it will be worth it.
