Do You Know What You Should Eat When You Are Injured?
One of our patients asked me a great question this afternoon, and I wanted to share it with all of you. First a little background. This patient was on his second week of treatment and was feeling significantly better but continued to notice some lingering stiffness and soreness. We discussed his daily routine and the impact that it can have on his symptoms. In passing he reported that he was still taking Advil everyday. I asked him why, and began explaining the risk of side effects from overusing NSAID's (Advil/Aleve/Tylenol), he looked at me and asked "Well... What can I do then?" After giving it a little thought, I replied that he could begin eating an anti-inflammatory diet. This particular patient calmly looked at me, like I was speaking Japanese, then cocked his head to the side and said "What does that even mean?" I smiled and explained the to the best of my ability. However, after looking back on my explanation, I think that I may have over-complicated it... So, to simplify the idea, I did a little research and found a great infographic from Precision Nutrition that discusses how you can use nutrition to speed your recovery from an injury!
