Election day is next week. It is decision time for all of us. First things first, the purpose of this newsletter is not to influence the decisions that you are going to make. That is completely up to you and what you believe is best for our community and our country. The purpose of this newsletter is to request that you go out and simply cast your vote. Regardless of who you support in this election, let your voice be heard.
Having the opportunity to vote is one of the rights afforded to us as Americans. According to the US Census Bureau, the 2020 election year brought 66.8% of voting-age citizens to the polls to cast their votes. That means that approximately 1/3 of American citizens of voting age did not even bother to cast a vote. Can you believe that? I was completely shocked when I read that.
We all know that this is a Presidential election year. It is impossible to avoid all the chatter (aka mudslinging) from both sides. This election is about far more than just voting for the President. Remember that on our ballots here in Carroll County Maryland, we have the opportunity to vote for President of the United States, a Senator, a Representative, 2 school board members, several judges, and a Maryland constitutional amendment. Obviously, the election that most people are concerned about is the Presidential election, but one could argue that the other elections will have a more significant impact on our daily lives here in Carroll County.
Again, I am not in any way, shape, or form attempting to tell you who you should be voting for. That is completely your decision, but I am asking you to go to your local polling place, on November 5, to make your voice heard.
