So... Last week I wrote about how procrastination has been a part of my life, and guess what happened this week? That stinking Instant Gratification Monkey jumped all over the place this week distracting me from doing my writing... until the Panic Monster struck this morning, and I realized that I needed to get to work!

This week I really don't have any amazing stories to tell you or crazy research that I want to share. I am not going to ramble on about the benefits of a great exercise program or making the right choices when it comes to nutrition. This week I just want to remind you that everyone deserves to know that they are appreciated. We often take the people around us for granted and forget to tell them how much they mean to us. I'm not just talking about family and friends. I'm talking about your co-workers, the librarian, the barista, your mechanic, anyone who makes your life better. Imagine how much more enjoyable life could be if we knew that we mattered to others and if others knew that they mattered to us. The best part about telling someone that you appreciate them is that when you tell them, it makes them feel better BUT it also makes you feel better! Everyone wins!

How much do you like to hear a sincere thank you when you hold a door for someone? And how disappointed do you get when that person neglects to acknowledge your gesture? I know that I tend to mutter under my breath, in my most sarcastic tone, something like "oh you're welcome..." Think about how much better both people feel after this interaction if they both acknowledge one another. That is the beauty of expressing appreciation, it leaves both people feeling better and more connected. So don't waste an opportunity to thank someone or tell them that they matter to you.

All of our lives are made easier by the people around us. Just remember to stop and take a moment to appreciate them.
