We finally made it!
It is finally over... I feel like we just crossed the finish line at an ultramarathon. We have ALL voted! You did vote right? Please tell me you did not throw away the chance to be heard... It is all out of our hands now!
Now that the votes have all been cast, we need to place our faith in our nation's election process and democracy and move forward together, as a nation while we await the final results. Regardless of who eventually wins the election. Rather than waste our time focusing on the division that was so apparent before and throughout this contentious election, we need to move forward by focusing on kindness and understanding. Understanding that there may be people who have different beliefs and opinions than you. And that is OK. However, I feel safe in saying that we, all, just want the best for our country.
Earlier this week, I saw an article published by Reuters titled 'You are no longer my mother': A divided America will struggle to heal after Trump era . Reading through it really made me reflect on my interactions with others. It talks about how families and friendships have been impacted by the political division in our country. The only way that we can make forward progress is if we move together. Continuing to argue with one another does no one any good, and only continues to fan the flames of division.
As we eagerly await the outcome of this election, I am going to ask that we all focus on kindness. Rather than spend our time arguing about things that we have no control over, why don't we spend our time helping a neighbor. Rather than obsessively watching the news, why don't we reach out to someone that you have not spoken to in quite a while. Stop giving these politicians all of your attention and spend your time focusing on the people who matter in your daily life.
