Summertime... And the living is easy!
Summer Solstice happened earlier this week. Do you know what that means? Tuesday was the longest day of the year! At the North Pole the sun did not set. At the South Pole the sun never rose. From this point forward, until the winter solstice. with each passing day, the days in the Northern Hemisphere will get shorter, and the days in the Southern Hemisphere will get longer.
Isn't the dichotomy of summer and winter interesting? While one half of the world is ready to enjoy the start of the season filled with steamy weather, swimming in pools, and trips to the beach, the other half is preparing to pull out the winter coats, snow shovels, and skis. Simply because we happen to be on opposite sides of the globe. Remember though in 6 months the roles will be reversed!
The relationship between summer and winter has always fascinated me. To be clear, if given my choice I would choose summer over winter 100% of the time, but I do understand the importance of the winter season. The weather in the summer allows me to do the things that I enjoy most. However, I understand that not everyone will agree with me. Some people despise the heat and love to do outdoor activities in the snow. And that is OK. That is why so many of us chose to live in the areas with four distinct seasons.
It is important to remember that without the dark, cold winter we would not be able to fully appreciate the bright, hot summer weather.
