Got me thinking again...
It is time to share more random wisdom that I have stumbled across! When quotes pop up on my social media feeds one of two things will happen. Either I scroll right on by or I pause for a moment and ponder the meaning of the quote. The funny part is I really don't know why I scroll right past some, but others make me stop. When I do take the time to give the quote some thought, then I try to figure out how it applies to my life. To be fair, the majority of the time I just scroll on by without even hesitating. Not this time.
This time the quote that stopped me in my tracks was:
"Who you are becoming is more important than who you've been."
I don't even know who to attribute the quote to, but to be honest that is not all that important. What is important is to take a moment and digest the meaning of the statement. We are all on a path. All moving forward. All the time. No one has been able to move backward on our timelines. At least not that I am aware of. Many of us still spend way too much time looking back at who we were. Looking back at what we did. Second guessing some of the decisions that we made in the past. Or second guessing decisions that others have made. Second guessing how we responded to certain situations, and maybe wishing that we had responded differently.
Why? Why do we spend so much time and energy looking behind us, when we can only move forward. We cannot change the things that have happened in the past. We can only change the decisions that we have not made yet.
We would be better off spending more time looking forward to who we can become and spending less time reflecting on who we were.
