Winners Win, Losers Learn
Earlier this week, I was listening to a podcast and the host mentioned a quote that I had never heard before, but as soon as I heard it I knew that I would never forget it. The host said, “Winners win, and losers learn.” I cannot overstate how true this statement is for every aspect of life. Whether we are talking about lower back pain, the stock market, or a soccer game, there is always a lesson to be learned from a “loss.” Often the lesson learned is tough to find, or tough to swallow, but if we don’t learn from those moments we are likely to repeat them in the future. When you encounter the inevitable bump in the road, make sure that you take some time to reflect on what lead to that moment, and make the necessary changes to avoid that pitfall in the future.
Let’s get a little more specific here for a moment, If we are talking about lower back pain, it is incredibly important to look at the movement that “caused” the pain. It is equally important to remember that more of than not, the movement that caused the pain is the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back (yes, of course, that pun was intended). The majority of the time lower back pain is the result of repetitive “micro-traumas” that occur in our everyday activities, and not due to one specific traumatic episode. When we reflect on our lower back pain we will often see a history of prolonged sitting during the day, or improper biomechanics when lifting stuff from the floor, or countless other potential issues. If you experience lower back pain, please take a little time for self-reflection, so that you can learn from the “loss” and can become a WINNER!
Move well,
